“Don’t Write to Me” is one of Wallach’s Obligato Songs, duets for voice and unusual instruments. Here, the Heckelphone is featured, performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony‘s contrabasson and heckelphone virtuoso, James Rodgers, demonstrating and discussing the instrument’s unique qualities and timbre as part of the New World Symphony’s BLUE Project. In this rare opportunity at the New World Symphony, Maestro Rodgers will introduce the Heckelphone, explore its origins, its uses and its unique, rich baritone timbre. Audience members will be encouraged to participate by asking questions and taking part in post-presentation discussions.
