Senex Puerum Portabat (3.5)

for SATB choir

Senex puerum portabat

Senex puerum portabat:                      An old man held up a child
puer autem senem regebat:                 Yet the child upheld the man,
quem virgo peperit,                             The child the Virgin bore
et post partum virgo permansit:          Yet remained a virgin:
ipsum quem genuit, adoravit.             The child she had borne she adored.

Latin Liturgical Text:

Antiphon to the Magnificat at First Vespers for the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
(The first two lines also form the Alleluia verse to the Gradual for Mass of the same feast.)
